After the rain, the Uzbekistan Pavilion sparkles with a clear blue mirror-like exterior, reflecting the beauty of the surroundings. As you step inside, the soft melodies of traditional Uzbek music welcome you, and it feels as though you're opening an encyclopedia of Central Asia, revealing the rich history and culture of this vibrant nation. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, exudes a peaceful charm. Local legends speak of mysterious lands surrounding the city, adding to its allure. With an area of 447,400 square kilometers, Uzbekistan sits at the heart of Central Asia, acting as a bridge between East and West. Its strategic location has made it a crossroads for various religions and cultures throughout history, especially along the ancient Silk Road. Known as the "Pearl of Central Asia" and the "Country of a Thousand Cities," Uzbekistan is a land steeped in history. Inside the pavilion, visitors are greeted by a wealth of visual and textual materials that showcase the country’s heritage. The Silk Road played a crucial role in shaping Uzbekistan’s development, fostering trade and cultural exchange that brought civilizations together. Ancient monuments and architectural wonders, some over 4,000 years old, stand as testaments to the country's deep historical roots. Sites like the "Ichang Kara" have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites, highlighting the significance of Uzbekistan’s cultural legacy. Beyond its past, Uzbekistan also celebrates its present. The country hosts numerous festivals each year, preserving its traditions and passing them on to future generations. As one museum staff explained, “The Silk Road not only brought Chinese civilization to the world but also connected it with other ancient cultures. Though Uzbekistan is not directly adjacent to China, the Silk Road has already linked our two nations, making us close neighbors.” According to Assia Almieserba, the curator of the Uzbekistan Pavilion, another key goal is to inform visitors about the country’s modern developments. Despite its centuries-old culture, Uzbekistan is a young and dynamic nation. Since gaining independence in 1991, it has made significant progress in economic and social growth. With abundant natural resources, it stands among the five strongest economies in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Moreover, Uzbekistan is the only country in Central Asia capable of manufacturing airplanes and producing high-quality vehicles and agricultural equipment. Outside the pavilion, an ostrich sculpture symbolizes freedom, new life, happiness, and prosperity. At the center of the exhibit, two cylindrical sculptures rise toward the sky, resting on a fountain. Above them, a hemisphere represents the blue sky, white clouds, and flying birds. According to Almiashaeva, the upward-pointing sculptures symbolize unity and harmonious development. Water, representing purity and the source of life, flows through the fountain, while the birds embody peace, hope, and friendship. Together, these elements reflect the spirit and aspirations of Uzbekistan.
