After the rain, the Uzbekistan Pavilion sparkled like a blue mirror, reflecting the clear sky and the vibrant energy of the country. As visitors stepped into the pavilion, they were greeted by the soft, melodic sounds of traditional Uzbek music, creating an atmosphere that felt like entering a living encyclopedia of Central Asia.
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is known for its peaceful ambiance and rich history. It's said that many mysterious and ancient lands surround this city, making it a gateway to the heart of Central Asia. With an area of 447,400 square kilometers, Uzbekistan sits at the crossroads of East and West, playing a key role in connecting different cultures and religions throughout history. The legendary Silk Road passed through here, bringing prosperity and exchange between civilizations.
Uzbekistan is often called the "Pearl of Central Asia" and the "Land of a Thousand Cities." Inside the pavilion, visitors are immersed in a wealth of visual and textual materials that showcase the nation’s deep-rooted traditions and historical significance. The Silk Road was not only a trade route but also a cultural bridge that helped shape the identity of the region. Ancient cities, temples, and monuments—some dating back over 4,000 years—stand as testaments to Uzbekistan’s enduring legacy. Many of these sites, such as the ancient city of "Ichan Kala," have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Beyond its past, Uzbekistan continues to evolve. The country celebrates its culture through various festivals that preserve and pass on its customs and stories. As one museum staff explained, “The Silk Road brought Chinese civilization to the world, and through it, the world connected with ancient China. Though Uzbekistan is not directly adjacent to China, the Silk Road has already linked our two nations, making us close neighbors.â€
“While showcasing history is important, we also want visitors to learn about Uzbekistan’s present and future,†said Assia Almieserba, the curator of the pavilion. Despite its centuries-old heritage, Uzbekistan is a young and dynamic nation. Since gaining independence in 1991, it has made significant progress in economic development and infrastructure. With abundant natural resources, it is one of the five strongest economies in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Additionally, Uzbekistan is the only country in Central Asia capable of manufacturing airplanes and producing modern vehicles and agricultural equipment.
Outside the pavilion, a majestic ostrich sculpture stands as a symbol of freedom and new beginnings, representing happiness and prosperity. Inside, two tall cylindrical sculptures rise toward the sky, resting on a fountain. Above them, a hemisphere depicts the blue sky, white clouds, and flying birds. According to Almiashaeva, the sculptures symbolize unity and harmonious development, while water represents purity, the sky represents openness, and the birds stand for peace, hope, and friendship. Together, these elements reflect the spirit of Uzbekistan—a land where past and future meet in harmony.
