I recently stumbled upon a picture of fashion model Irina Shayk rocking what seemed like an effortlessly stylish yet comfortable airport outfit. Although I can't imagine myself pulling off this exact look anytime soon, it's been stuck in my head ever since. The pants look incredibly similar to our Montauk Trousers, don't they?

When I take a closer look at the outfit, I notice that the pants and shirt don’t appear to be made from the same fabric. The stripes on the two pieces have slightly different colors—the top stripe seems clearly blue, while the bottom appears to be a deep navy or perhaps black. I really like this contrast. For the top, I think recreating it would be straightforward with either the Classic Shirt or the Camp Shirt + Dress pattern, with the latter giving off a more pajama-like vibe.
Before seeing this photo, I wouldn’t have thought about making a pair of striped Montauks, but now I’m daydreaming about doing exactly that. I’d probably wear them a bit shorter than Irina did in this picture. Maybe I’d pair them with an oversized, breezy white linen Classic Shirt.
I also like the idea of teaming the trousers with a striped Verdun Woven T-Shirt, similar to the one our advisor Virginia showcased in her recent post. However, I’d likely stick with something more conventional, such as a plain white top, or perhaps a solid green or orange.
Virginia made up the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in three fabrics.
What do you think? Could you see yourself pulling off a version of this look, or maybe tweaking it to fit your own style?
In addition to the outfit, I’ve been curious about the ongoing debate surrounding sustainable fashion practices. It’s something that has me thinking a lot these days, especially given the impact the fashion industry has on the environment. While Irina’s look is undeniably chic, I can’t help but wonder how we can make more eco-friendly choices in our wardrobes without sacrificing style.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this too. Do you feel like you could recreate this look sustainably? Or are there other ways you’d consider making it more environmentally friendly?
