introducing the cappuccino dress and tunic
Once in a while, a sewing pattern comes along that quietly grows in popularity over time. That was certainly the case with our Lisette Portfolio Dress + Tunic. When we first released it under Simplicity as Simplicity 2245 about three years ago, it did quite well initially, but sales gradually slowed down. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, it started gaining traction—thanks largely to Pinterest, I believe—and became incredibly popular just as it was being pulled from print.
You all were relentless in your requests for us to bring it back. The sheer volume of your pleas convinced us that something had to be done. So, we reached out to Simplicity multiple times to see if we could revive it, but unfortunately, they declined.
Determined not to leave you disappointed, we decided to create an entirely new and improved version of the much-loved Portfolio Dress + Tunic. We’ve named it the Cappuccino Dress + Tunic. This new pattern is completely re-drafted, with a fresh take on the original design.
Check out the new look below:

As you can see, we've made some significant changes to the style. After noticing that some of you found the neckline a bit too high, we redesigned it with a more flattering V-neck. This new design is not only more aesthetically appealing but also easier to sew compared to the original. Since this is a digital pattern, we won't ever run out of stock. If there's enough interest, we might even release a paper version later this fall—if you can hold out that long!
We’ve kept some of the best elements from the original Portfolio pattern, like the kimono sleeves and slightly relaxed fit, which gently shapes the body to flatter your curves. The dress version continues to feature those nearly hidden inseam pockets that everyone adores. These details have contributed to its previous success on platforms like Pinterest.
Here are a few more shots of the Cappuccino pattern:

The dress has been slightly lengthened, and the tunic version looks fantastic in terms of both length and silhouette. In fact, I personally could wear the tunic every single day—it’s exactly my style.
This pattern works beautifully with various fabrics such as quilting cotton, chambray, lawn, shirting, poplin, broadcloth, sateen, voile, and linen. For cooler weather, you could try fine-wale corduroy or wool crepe. And why not dress it up a bit? A stable knit would also work great. For the photoshoot, we used washed silk for the tunic and rayon for the dress, and we’re thrilled with how they turned out.
We hope you love this new pattern! Thank you for your patience while we redeveloped it. You can grab your copy now in the Oliver + S shop.
Enjoy sewing, and let us know what you think!
