introducing the cappuccino dress and tunic

Over time, certain sewing patterns can quietly gain popularity despite initial modest sales. That’s exactly what happened with our Lisette Portfolio Dress + Tunic. Released by Simplicity three years ago as Simplicity 2245, the pattern initially performed well, but sales gradually slowed down. However, thanks largely to its discovery on Pinterest, it eventually became a huge hit—just as it was being discontinued. Your overwhelming requests to bring it back were impossible to ignore. Countless pleas convinced us that we needed to act. So, we reached out to Simplicity to revive the pattern, only to be met with a firm "no." Undeterred, we decided to create an entirely new and improved version of this beloved design. Introducing the Cappuccino Dress + Tunic—a fresh take inspired by the original but with several thoughtful updates. The most noticeable change is the neckline, which now features a graceful V-shape. This adjustment was made based on feedback from some of you who felt the original neckline was a bit too high. Not only do we believe this redesign is more stylish, but it's also easier to sew compared to the original. Plus, since this is a digital pattern, we won’t face stock issues. If there’s enough interest, we might even release it in paper format later this year—if you can hold out that long! [Image description: A beautiful shot of the Cappuccino Dress + Tunic] Like the original Portfolio pattern, the Cappuccino retains the kimono sleeves and relaxed fit, with subtle shaping at the sides for a flattering silhouette. The dress version includes those hidden inseam pockets that were so adored, and we've adjusted the length slightly. Personally, I adore the tunic—it’s the perfect length and shape for everyday wear. The versatility of this pattern shines through when considering fabric choices. It works beautifully with quilting cotton, chambray, lawn, shirting fabrics, poplin, broadcloth, sateen, voile, and linen. For cooler weather, consider fine-wale corduroy or wool crepe. Don’t shy away from dressing it up either! A stable knit could add a modern touch, and we’ve experimented with washed silk for the tunic and rayon for the dress—both resulting in stunning outcomes. We’re thrilled to reintroduce this pattern and hope it brings joy to your sewing journey. Thank you for your patience during its redevelopment.
