more cute building block dresses
Since the release of the *Building Block Dress* book last month, there’s been an incredible amount of amazing sewing projects popping up everywhere. Today, I reached out to some of my sewing buddies to share their creations using the patterns from the book. Let me tell you, they’ve come up with some truly creative and inspiring pieces!
Miren from Solo Sewing has been a cherished friend ever since we met in Barcelona two years ago. Her latest project is an A-line version of the dress, complete with an external neck facing and pockets. What caught my eye was how she drew inspiration from 1960s swing dresses. The result? Absolutely stunning! She even managed to add her own unique twist to it, which really sets it apart.
And guess what? Miren also used the same book to craft a space-themed costume for a school play. Can you imagine wearing something like that for Halloween? It’s not only clever but also super fun! The hoop skirt she added is just adorable and adds a playful touch.
While we’re on the topic of costumes, Emily’s rainbow dress blew me away. The way she played with color blocking, paired with the scalloped collar, is pure genius. Not to mention, the admiring little brother and the perfectly matched headband make this dress extra special. It’s as if she’s taken a step into the world of fashion design right before our eyes!
Speaking of fabulous designs, Ashley and Emily from Frances Suzanne never cease to amaze with their creations. Their latest dress is a classic beauty with a white collar and cuffs, delicate floral prints, and an empire waist. The pleats give it a timeless charm that’s hard to resist. It’s the kind of dress you’d want to wear for any occasion.
Jennifer’s corduroy version is another highlight. She transformed the original pattern into something completely different, creating a cozy and stylish fall-winter dress. The square neckline, empire waist, and button front all work beautifully together. It’s proof that with practice and confidence, you can take these patterns in countless directions.
Kelly decided to experiment with an asymmetrical collar, and honestly, it couldn’t have turned out better. The smaller print she chose for the collar, cuffs, and pockets adds a touch of modern flair. It’s simple yet striking, and it makes the entire dress pop.
As for me, I’m currently putting the finishing touches on S’s Halloween costume. I’m hoping to have photos ready by next weekend, and I can’t wait to share them with you! I hope everyone else’s Halloween sewing projects are going smoothly too. Happy crafting!
